The primary purpose of a biosafety cabinet (BSC or Biological Safety Cabinet or Microbiological Safety Cabinet) is to protect the laboratory users and the environment from pathogens. BSC provides for an enclosed and ventilated workspace. The enclosed space enhances safety when working with materials contaminated (or potentially contaminated) with pathogens. Biosafety cabinets find use where a defined biosafety level is required.

AirBio™ Class II biosafety cabinets provide protection of the samples and of the environment, since makeup air is also HEPA-filtered. Class II biosafety cabinets are characterized by a limited fixed inward airflow access opening providing personnel protection, a vertical downward HEPA filtered work zone offering product protection and HEPA filtered exhaust providing environmental protection.
